Twitter that hes joining the rebuilding San Diego Padres.Multiple reports indicate the right-hander has agreed to a two-year contract worth about $15 million. Richards had reconstructive elbow surgery in July while with the Los Angeles Angels.Neither the Padres nor Richards agency would confirm the deal Thursday night. The move apparently is with an eye toward 2020 Tucker Barnhart Jersey , when the Padres expect to be competitive.Today I had to make one of the toughest decisions of my career, the 30-year-old Richards tweeted. The emotions Im feeling are bittersweet. While were excited to start a new chapter as a Padre, its not easy to say goodbye to the only team Ive know.Richards was 5-4 with a 3.66 ERA last year before having surgery. He was 45-38 with a 3.54 ERA with the Angels since 2011. NEW YORK (AP) Washington outfielder Bryce Harper and Boston closer Craig Kimbrel were among just seven free agents who received $17.9 million qualifying offers from their former clubs Friday, when Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw agreed to a $93 million, three-year contract rather than test the market.Left-handers Patrick Corbin (Arizona), Dallas Keuchel (Houston) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (Los Angeles Dodgers) also received qualifying offers as did outfielder A.J. Pollock (Diamondbacks) and catcher Yasmani Grandal (Dodgers).Players have until Nov. 12 to accept. If a team makes a qualifying offer to a player who signs a major league contract with another club before the June amateur draft, his former club would receive a draft pick as compensation at the end of the first round.Only five of 73 players given qualifying offers have accepted since the process began in 2012.The Chicago Cubs exercised their $20 million option on left-hander Cole Hamels, who went 4-3 with a 2.36 ERA in 12 starts after he was acquired from Texas on July 27. The Cubs traded left-hander Drew Smyly to the Rangers , clearing his $7 million salary from the payroll. That is $1 million more than the Rangers would have owed the Cubs if Hamels option had been declined, which would have triggered a $6 million buyout and allowed him to go free.Kershaw terminated a $215 million, seven-year contract that had $65 million remaining at $32 million next year and $33 million in 2020. The new deal calls for a $23 million signing bonus, payable in equal installments on June 30 in each of the next three years, and annual salaries of $23,333,333. He can earn $4 million annually in performance bonuses, in four $1 million increments for 24 Scott Schebler Jersey , 26, 28 and 30 starts, which could raise the deals value to $105 million over three years. He also can gain award bonuses of $1.5 million for winning the NL Cy Young Award or $500,000 for finishing second or third in the voting.Theres been a lot of people saying that Im in decline or not going to be as good as I once was, said Kershaw, whose Dodgers lost in the World Series for the second straight year. Im looking forward to proving a lot of people wrong with that.Kershaw, who turns 31 in March, has spent all 11 of his big league seasons with the Dodgers. It was more valuable to me to just stay here Scooter Gennett Jersey , he said. A chance to win every single year, it doesnt come around like this in LA very often.Top free agents prefer to seek multiyear contracts, but given the greater priority placed on draft picks in recent years, Ryu and Grandal might face a difficult market and consider accepting the offers.A free agent can be made a qualifying offer only if he has been with the same team continuously since opening day and has never received a qualifying offer before. Because of those rules, Manny Machado and Josh Donaldson were among the players who were ineligible to receive offers. The amount is the average of the top 125 major league contracts this year by average annual value.Harper and Machado are the top players available on the market, though Machados value may have been damaged by a rocky postseason in which he hit .227, showed a remarkable lack of hustle and was fined $10,000 for stepping on a first basemans foot.Others among the 160 available free agents include right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Charlie Morton George Foster Jersey , left-handers J.A. Happ and CC Sabathia, relievers Zach Britton, Andrew Miller, David Robertson and Jeurys Familia, outfielder Michael Brantley, third baseman Mike Moustakas, infielder Daniel Murphy, designated hitter Nelson Cruz and utilityman Marwin Gonzalez.Kershaw was among four players who became free agents and immediately re-signed this week , joined by St. Louis right-hander Adam Wainwright, Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and Dodgers outfielder David Freese.Cleveland is interested in re-signing Brantley but did not want to commit $17.9 million for one year.We could not have any more respect for any individual than we have for Michael, general manager Chris Antonetti said. Hes the guy that epitomizes, as Ive shared before, all of the things we look for in a player. Hes exceedingly productive on the field. He defines professionalism in the clubhouse, and hes an extraordinary teammate. The interest and desire is there. What we will have to work through is, can we make the pieces fit?

The Buccaneers continued to benefit from Fitzmagic on Sunday Youth Customized Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys , beating the defending Super ames Stadium. Tampa Bay is now 2-0 for the first time since 2010 and sits in sole possession of first place in the NFC South. Lets get around to what else went down in the division during week two.Atlanta Falcons (1-1)The Falcons bounced back from their disappointing week one loss by beating the division rival Panthers 31-24 on Sunday. In its home opener, Atlanta used a 17-0 mid-game run to get some separation from Carolina. As soon as the Panthers got back within one score early in the fourth quarter, the Falcons came back to take a two-possession lead. The defense allowed a touchdown with 2:20 to go, but eventually held on for the victory. Atlanta got a much better performance out of Matt Ryan this week. He completed 23 of his 28 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 18 yards and two scores. Tevin Coleman ran for 107 yards on 16 carries, filling in nicely for the injured Devonta Freeman. Up Next: vs. New Orleans Saints (1-1)Carolina Panthers (1-1)The Panthers led the Falcons on the road 10-3 early in the second quarter, but once they lost that lead, they never came back. Graham Gano connected on a 54-yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead before Cam Newton and Jarius Wright linked up for a five-yard touchdown to take a 10-3 lead. From there, Atlanta went on a run to take a two-score lead. Newton later hit Torrey Smith and DJ Moore for touchdowns, but the Panthers couldnt overcome the deficit. Newton had a big day, throwing for 335 yards and three touchdowns on 32-of-45 passing. He also ran for 42 yards on five carries. Christian McCaffrey didnt get much going on the ground, but caught 14 passes for 102 yards. Devin Funchess caught seven passes for 77 yards, but it was Wright , Smith and Moore who found the end zone. Up Next: vs. Cincinnati Bengals (2-0)New Orleans Saints (1-1)After their shootout loss to the Bucs last week, the Saints struggle their way to a 21-18 win over the Browns in week two. Still at home in the Superdome, New Orleans was sluggish for much of the day. Cleveland led 12-3 after three quarters, but Drew Brees and his offense came back in the fourth. Two touchdown passes from Brees to Michael Thomas, plus a two-point conversion run by Alvin Kamara, got the Saints out to an 18-12 lead. Things almost went heavily downhill from there, as Tyrod Taylor found Antonio Callaway for a 47-yard touchdown on fourth down with 1:16 to go. The Browns had tied the game and were an extra point away from a late lead, but the kick was no good. After that, New Orleans marched down the field and set Will Lutz up for a 44-yard game-winning field goal.Despite the slow start, Brees was his normal self. He completed 28 of his 35 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas was once again his main target, catching 12 passes for 89 yards and two scores. It was a rare off day for Kamara, who ran for just 46 yards and caught just six passes for 53 yards. It wasnt a terrible day Tampa Bay Buccaneers Womens T-Shirt , but it wasnt what everyone is accustomed to from him. Kicking ultimately made the difference, as the Saints took advantage of two missed field goals and two missed extra points by Cleveland kicker Zane Gonzalez. Tampa Bays rookies are still working through the expected early-season learning curve Youth Justin Evans Jersey , but there were positives from a few guys in the victory. Theres still plenty of room for improvement as well. Lets get going with this weeks rookie recap.S Jordan Whitehead, CBs Carlton Davis and M.J. StewartThe fact that Jordan Whitehead, Carlton Davis and M.J. Stewart are even seeing the field gives them a step ahead of their fellow rookies. That they are getting playing time and not showing up on the inactive list is encouraging, as sad as that seems. But heres the other thing: these guys are playing pretty darn well for the position theyre in. The injuries to Brent Grimes, Vernon Hargreaves III and Chris Conte have opened a door for the rookies to dive right into their NFL careers. There are growing pains, as expected, but it feels safe to say that these guys are on their way to being good players at the professional level. Whitehead stood out the most in Sundays win over Philadelphia, getting on the field after Conte left with an injury. The Pitt product finished the day with six tackles (four solo), coming up with a couple of strong run stops at the line of scrimmage and around the edge. He was largely effective in coverage as well, which of course provides a nice complement to Justin Evans. The Bucs obviously want Conte back as soon as possible, but they should feel good about what they have in Whitehead. As far as Davis and Stewart are concerned, both are coming along nicely while being put in tough positions. Having to start your NFL career by playing a high volume of snaps against Drew Brees and last years Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles isnt ideal. Despite facing that, the two young corners are showing flashes of why they were so successful at the college level. Davis came up with six tackles (all solo) and a pass defended on Sunday while Stewart tallied five tackles (four solo) , a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit. These guys are still developing, sure, but with the amount of playing time theyre getting, theyll come along quick. In Sundays win, Davis played 77 of 79 snaps (97 percent), Stewart was in for 67 of 79 (85 percent) and Whitehead got 36 of 79 (46 percent). Tampa Bay has something here as far as the future is concerned. Be encouraged by that. But at the same time... Inactives: DT Vita Vea, RB Ronald Jones II, OL Alex Cappa, WR Justin WatsonNo matter the reasons, it has to be somewhat of a disappointment to see this many of your rookies on the inactive list. Vita Vea has yet to return from injury, which is understandable. Injuries unfortunately happen and blaming Vea makes no sense. That doesnt mean its not disappointing that he is still sidelined. The same issues remained this week for Alex Cappa and Justin Watson there just arent enough open spots on the gameday roster at their respective positions. Its understandable that both Cappa and Watson werent out there, considering theyre developmental type of guys that the Bucs want around for the future. Theres plenty of depth at both of their positions, so the team doesnt need them too badly at the moment. The Ronald Jones situation is an interesting one. Tampa Bay drafted him to be a one-two guy with Peyton Barber O. J. Howard Jersey , but he has yet to see the field in the regular season. Head coach Dirk Koetter said last week that no one is mad at Jones, but the team will continue to put together a roster of the best 46 guys. Unfortunately, the feeling must be that Jones isnt one of those 46 guys yet. That doesnt mean he wont ever be, but his progress appears to be much slower than the Bucs were anticipating. Its perfectly reasonable to think we will see Jones make his NFL debut soon. He has the talent to play in this league, surely. The big hurdle is whether or not he has improved his pass-protection. If he has a good week of practice, maybe he takes the field on Monday against the Steelers. The Bucs hope so and its a certainty that the fans want to see him. Hope isnt lost for the second-rounder, no matter how much you think it is. The best of the restUndrafted free agent Shaun Wilson was active again, but didnt get any kick return opportunities. He did take his one carry out of the backfield for nine yards... Sixth-rounder Jack Cichy was also active, playing 13 snaps on special teams. There are tons of questions currently surrounding the Tampa bay Buccaneers and in the coming weeks and months, many of those questions will be answered. General manager Jason Licht will be a busy man this off season. Not only does he have to find a new head coach, but he also has to reconstruct the roster and at the same time, focus on some of the best prospects in college. But hey, thats why they get paid the big bucks. Back to that roster point. When Licht spoke to the media on Monday afternoon Authentic Chandler Catanzaro Jersey , he had this to say when asked whether or not their needs to be drastic changes in the teams personnel for the 2019 season. You tweak your roster every year. We have a lot of young talent, like I said. We have a lot of guys that we really like. More so this year than in previous years. Still have a lot of work to do, but we have a lot of flexibility in our contracts, in our salary cap, in the way we do things that we can add more players. The answer isnt always adding the splashy superstar. To find some good players, well have flexibly to do that. One part of that quote was really telling when I read it and its the part in which he talks about the teams salary cap and the flexibility they have this off season when it comes to managing contracts. Currently, as things stand right now, the Buccaneers are projected to have about $30 million dollars in cap space, after the NFL increases the cap, as it does every year. Without that increase, Tampa Bay would have $17 million. After two consecutive 5-11 seasons, the Buccaneers will look to shake things up a bit and here are some of the guys that Licht was referring too when he said the team has flexibility. The following players can be cut and will leave behind no dead cap. After I give the list, I will give the players I would move on from. Jason Pierre Paul ($14.5 million) Youth Jason Pierre-Paul Jersey , Gerald McCoy ($13 million), DeSean Jackson ($10 million), Lavonte David ($9.75 million), Vinny Curry ($8 million), Cameron Brate ($7 million), Demar Dotson ($4.725 million), Mitch Unrein and William Gholston ($3.75 million each), Bryan Anger ($3 million) and Evan Smith ($2 million). That is a total of 11 players the Buccaneers could realistically move on from when the new league year begins. Obviously, not all players will be released, but here are some of the moves I would make to increase that cap room for the new regime. 1. Cut/trade Gerald McCoy. Best case scenario is you get a third round pick for him, but either way, the production and salary cap number doesnt match up anymore and this team can use that $13 million on many different positions. 2. Cut/trade DeSean Jackson. Again, maybe you can get a mid round pick for him , but thats unlikely. Both sides want to move on and its only a matter of time. Add another $10 million to the bank roll. 3. Cut Gholston and Unrein. Both cant stay, but one could make it on the roster next season for depth purposes. Heck, no one has seen Unrein since July because of a concussion and Gholston didnt really make much of an impact either for the second year in a row. With a loaded D line class, I think the Buccaneers can draft at least one of these guys replacements. Cut Unrein and Gholston. Add $7.25 million.4. Cut Cameron Brate. This move may come as a surprise to many, but Brate is expandable to me, especially when the new coaching staff realizes O.J. Howard shouldnt come off the field. The Buccaneers have talent at the tight end position and frankly $7 million is too expensive for a number two tight end. Use this money to shore up depth along the offensive line.5. Cut Bryan Anger. He has declined over the last three seasons and the Buccaneers will save $3 million. This is a no brainer. Those six moves would bring the Buccaneers to about $70.25 million dollars in cap space. This allows them to address many different areas and with a top five pick, this adds to why the Buccaneers job is an attractive one to many coaches.

Ive been writing for weeks about the bright Youth Cam Newton Jersey , young talent that will make the Panthers future. day of a sad season that featured the final performance of all-time standouts Julius Peppers and Ryan Kalil and may have seen the final games from similar franchise legend Thomas Davis. We will talk a lot more about them in the coming weeks. They deserve more than passing mention in the weekly column that is supposed to be about the good news yet to break. Well also spend more time than just this column breaking down what the hell happened to this season. Today, lets focus on what happened yesterday. Lets talk about just the one football game while we still can.The Panthers played a game that was fun to watch for the first time in almost two months. They did it while still being plagued by the issues that lead to their seven game losing streak in the first place. A distinctly unimpressive offensive line performance led to the Panthers playing their fourth quarterback due to injury this season. A litany of second and third string players on the Saints offensive line held their own against the best the Panthers defensive linemen could throw at them. The Panthers still won. That might be because the rest of the Saints players, save Michael Thomas and Eli Apple, were off partying on the sidelines instead of competing in the game, but it doesnt change the fact that the Panthers played entertaining football while showing flashes of a promising future. Cam Newtons deterioration following the Pittsburgh game shouldnt mask the fact that he didnt really have a deep ball during the first half of the season, either. Yesterday showed us what Norv Turners offense can look like with downfield threats in the mix. That's a pretty good result from what was essentially a preseason game for both teams. You are welcome to feel any which way you want over the now confirmed returns of Marty Hurney, Ron Rivera, and the rest of the Panthers management and coaching staff. I have made myself clear on their performances on a number of occasions. Youd have to be crazy, however, to not want to see what Turner and his scheme could do with a healthy Newton and this young group of play makers.Curtis Samuels one great deep touchdown , D.J. Moores phenomenal run after the catch on an intermediate target, and the pass interference call in the first quarter on a hilariously under-thrown ball to Samuel were all examples of this offense being able to pull big plays out of nowhere. Kyle Allen, regardless of his future in the NFL and with his injury from yesterday, deserves credit for showing us what the Panthers could be next year. His performance as a first time starter was far better than expected. Like Chris Clark before him, he was a street signing that played beyond expectations. Also like Clark, we shouldnt expect him to bring the Panthers glory if Newton has to sit out any length of time to rehab his shoulder. Goodness does not guarantee greatness. Allen was good in his limited time yesterday. The Panthers should absolutely consider him when constructing their quarterback room next year. But they wont be so naive as to pin their hopes, however short term, to his young and brief success. The Panthers future rests on the shoulder of a man with a poorly defined injury. Newton is the only franchise quarterback that they will have the opportunity or the capital to employ for the foreseeable future. Identifying a path for his return and protection has to be their highest priority. Newton at the helm of the offense we saw yesterday is more exciting than any play for which Steve Smith or Ted Ginn, Jr were responsible.Opportunities for greatness are not common in the NFL. The league is designed to favor parity over dominance. The Panthers are not far from such an opportunity, despite their disappointing 7-9 finish. Any fan of the Carolina Panthers should be optimistic about that. The Panthers have a new team president a move that could mean professional soccer is next on the horizon for the Carolinas.Carolina owner David Tepper hired Tom Glick to run the Panthers' day-to-day operations. Glick becomes the team's first president since Danny Morrison resigned unexpectedly in February 2017.Tepper has indicated on multiple occasions he's interested in bringing a Major League Soccer team to Charlotte since purchasing the Panthers for $2.2 billion from founder Jerry Richardson in July. While Glick has no experience with American football Womens Torrey Smith Jersey , he has more than 25 years of experience working in soccer and other sports.Glick has spent the past six years working with developing the City Football Group (CFG), a multi-national soccer organization that includes six clubs including current English Premier League champion Manchester City FC. The Group also owns New York City FC of Major League Soccer. As chief commercial officer of CFG, Glick oversaw partnership sales and activation, marketing, content production and distribution, retail and licensing, and fan relationship management for all of CFG's clubs."We are thrilled to have Tom join the Panthers family," Tepper said in a statement. "He has tremendous experience in professional sports, successfully fostering fan engagement in major cities globally. I know that his record, expertise and drive will be major assets as we look to win on the field and in the community."For now Womens Shaq Thompson Jersey , Glick's focus will be on the Panthers."David has a clear and exciting vision for the team, and I can see and feel the buzz and anticipation for this new era of Panthers football," Glick said in a statement. "I'm ready to get started and will give everything to help the team deliver for our fans, players, staff, partners and our communities throughout North and South Carolina."Glick will be expected to handle stadium upgrades or possibly the construction for a new stadium for the Panthers if Tepper decides to build one.Charlotte is home to the Panthers, the NBA's Charlotte Hornets which are owned by Michael Jordan and minor league baseball and hockey teams. There have been a few business groups who've tried unsuccessfully to bring a Major League Soccer team to the Carolinas.During his tenure, CFG underwent several major infrastructure developments with Etihad Stadium in Manchester being expanded with more seating, major improvements in premium seating and wider fan amenities. Manchester City opened a new training facility in 2015 called the City Football Academy, built on 80 acres of land adjacent to the stadium. The group also completed two further training ground developments in New York and Melbourne Womens Dontari Poe Jersey , Australia.Glick moved to New York in 2015 for 15 months to help launch New York City FC in the role of president. After completing the launch, he returned to the United Kingdom to continue to drive CFG's global expansion. He's also worked with the organization's business development in China.Glick started his career in baseball, serving as senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Sacramento River Cats, a Triple-A baseball team. The River Cats led all of minor league baseball in attendance and revenue during his five seasons and became the minor league's top seller of merchandise over that same period. He's also served as the business manager of the Peoria Rivermen hockey club.Glick joined the NBA in 2004 as vice president, marketing and team business development at the league headquarters in New York and later worked as the chief marketing officer for the New Jersey Nets.

The Carolina Panthers win against the Philadelphia Eagles placed Cam Newton ahead of Aaron Rodgers for most 4th quarter come back victories in the NFL. Naturally, the team has been questioned repeatedly this week about how they can replicate their success and what their plans are for the up tempo style that is credited with driving the win. After all, Sunday was just the latest in a long career of games in which Newton has shown great proficiency with that kind of offense.Coaches never say as much as you would like to hear. It is part of their job to dissemble and conceal from the press, and thus, ultimately , their opponents, what their plans are from week to week. Im hoping that is behind the series of disappointing quotes that Ron Rivera and Norv Turner have given this week.Turner expressed support for the concepts while refusing to commit to them except on a situational basis and Rivera sounded like he saw going no huddle on offense as a last resort, at best. Specifically, Rivera is concerned that the Panthers will go three and out in a hurry, leaving their opponent with all of the time in the world to score. But really, whats there to lose for the Panthers?Against the Eagles Womens Christian McCaffrey Jersey , the Panthers first three drives of the game averaged 4 plays, 2:06 of clock burned, and just under 10 yards before each of them ended with a punt. In fact, with the exception of the Falcons game, each of the Panthers opening drives in 2018 has ended with a punt or a turnover. The saying if it aint broke dont fix it certainly does not apply here. The Panthers offense in the first quarter is broke. One must have the proper tools if they intend to fix something. This is why there has been so much attention paid to the Panthers success in an up tempo offense. The difference between their three punts to open the game and three touchdowns to end it cant be overlooked.Rivera himself referred to going up tempo as a great tool. Dont, however Youth Luke Kuechly Jersey , expect the Panthers to plan to make use of that tool against the Ravens or, probably, any other team in 2018. Riveras full quote on going no huddle was obviously, we were forced to, but its a great tool we have.I dont know how this is even logic. You shouldnt be forced to use a great tool in the face of an obvious problem. I cant believe this is intentionally misleading and vague coach speak, either. Emphasizing what you want to do over what you are good at doing has been Riveras philosophy since his first offensive coordinator , Rob Chudzinski, left to coach the Cleveland Browns. Every game the Panthers play is a tree they need to chop down. Since Chud left, Rivera has approached the tree with a nail file hes had since the 80s instead of the ostentatiously dressed axe that he drafted with the top pick in the 2011 draft.
