Since the Los Angeles Rams glorious, and some might say controversial , victory over the New Orleans Saints transpired yesterday, Rams all-world defensive tackle Aaron Donald will be unable to attend the 2019 Pro Bowl since he is headed to the Super Bowl instead. As a result , Kawann Short has been named to the Pro Bowl roster, and this will serve as a make up for his first selection back in 2015 , where he couldnt go because he was about to play in a Super Bowl of his own.Short will join fellow Carolina Panthers teammate Trai Turner down in Orlando for a fun weekend of mock football and shenanigans.Statistically, it was a down year for Short , and a tough year overall for the Panthers defense. Regardless of that fact, a down year for KK is a pretty darn good year for just about anyone else , and its nice hell finally get to make the trip so he can stand around on the field and slap hands with the opposing offensive line, because the Pro Bowl is lackadaisical overall Marquis Haynes Jersey , but especially for linemen.

That means rumors are abundant and hot takes are heating up regarding what the Jacksonville Jaguars may do at No. 7 overall and throughout the duration of the event. The Jaguars have also been busy re-signing familiar faces, working out some new players and bringing in depth pieces. Lets review some of the most recent Jags news and notes:Doug Pederson, Nick Foles former head coach in Philadelphia (and offensive coordinator in Kansas City), had very high praise for Foles. Pederson called his former quarterback a great person and a great leader at the 2019 NFL Annual Meeting. The Jaguars offseason program dates have been announced: Voluntary offseason workouts begin April 15. Organized Team Activities start on May 21 and mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 11-13. The Jaguars signed former Houston Texans running back Alfred Blue to a one-year deal after bringing him in for a visit. Blue joins Nick Foles (QB) Brandon Linder Color Rush Jersey , Cedric Ogbuehi (OT), Jake Ryan (LB), Chris Conley (WR) and Geoff Swaim (tight end) as the newest additions in Duval. The Jaguars have also signed another running back today Benny Cunningham. Cunningham provides more depth in the backfield and also has experience returning kicks. Jacksonville has been re-signing a lot of its offensive lineman from last season. Most recently, the Jaguars have decided to bring back offensive tackle Josh Wells for depth. The team also recently re-signed backup center Tyler Shatley and starting right guard A.J. Cann. The front office also decided to bring back tight end James OShaughnessy. We finally have some clarity into wide receiver Marqise Lees recovery timetable, and he may not be available until late in the preseason but sounds on track to be available for Week 1. Yours truly joined the Locked On Jaguars podcast with Zach Goodall. We talked about Alfred Blue, first-round needs, and one of my personal favorite prospects, Michigan State cornerback Justin Layne. You can listen to it here. Jaguars fans are fairly optimistic about the 2019 season outlook, and 95 percent of FanPulse voters think the team is in a better position following free agency. The 2019 Jacksonville Jaguars draft hats are here. What do you think? Via News4JAX Jalen Ramsey Jersey , The Jaguars are projected to win eight games in 2018, according to a Las Vegas oddsmaker, CG Technology. Every AFC South team was projected at least eight wins, though. The Jaguars are reportedly very interested in Mississippi tight end Dawson Knox. Mock Draft season in full swing: Tom Fornelli, CBS Sports: Interesting Jaguars receive and extra first-round pick by trading No. 7 overall to the Green Bay Packers, who select Alabama DL Quinnen Williams. The Jaguars then take Clemson edge rusher Clelin Ferrrell at No. 12 overall and Iowa tight end Noah Fant at No. 30 overall selections. The most recent name to make their way through TIAA Bank Field is former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.DeFilippo was recently fired by the Vikings reportedly because he was not running the football too much, however in most circles DeFilippo is thought of as a good offensive coordinator, especially in the passing game. He has spent a large part of his coaching career as a quarterbacks coach and is credited with developing some guys like Carson Wentz, Derek Carr and helping get more out of players like Josh McCown and Nick Foles. There is an interesting Tom Coughlin connection with DeFilippo however, as he got his break into the NFL with Coughlins New York Giants in 2005 as a quality control coach. Since then hes bounced around as a quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator at both the college and NFL level and many thought would soon be in line for a head coaching gig.

The time is almost here. Its that special November game that you have circled on your calendar. You know the one Im talking about; that all-important first matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles where these two 2018 NFC East front-runners take their first step forward as they show everyone who means business in the division. Well , thats how it was supposed to go down anyways, but halfway through the season, it doesnt quite have that same feel. Maybe its because the Washington Redskins are the team currently leading the NFC East. Maybe its because neither Dallas or Philadelphia is over .500 this season. Or maybe its because these once powerful offensive teams lead by a 2016 rookie quarterback are now struggling to score touchdowns, and both were outscored by an abysmal offensive team like the Tennessee Titans.I would love to group the Eagles in with the sadness that Cowboys fans have felt thanks to an inept offense that is burying their chances of winning football games, but I cant. I just cant. Philadelphia is actually a good football team. Yes, they are what their record is, which is a mediocre 4-4 and thats only one game better than this Cowboys team. But the Eagles have a couple things the Cowboys dont have that give them big advantage - consistent defense and big-play ability on offense. These things will put this Cowboys team behind the eight-ball when they head to Lincoln Financial Field to play under the lights on Sunday night. Here are five things to look for in this first of two battles against the Eagles.1. Zeke needs to get loose in PhilyThe last time Amari Cooper traveled to Philadelphia, this happened:It would be great if we got to see more of that on Sunday night. While Cooper is a nice offensive weapon, the Cowboys offense centers around the effectiveness of Ezekiel Elliott and their rushing attack. And lately, that ground attack hasnt been working. Elliott has had four games this season where defenses have held him under 70 yards. The Cowboys have lost all four of those games. In his last two games, Zeke has been held to 2.9 yards per carry as Washington and Tennessee have been able to take him out of the game. The Eagles will attempt to make it three games in a row as they boast the second-best run defense in the league, only giving up 83.8 yards per game. Opponents have the secret formula to stopping the Cowboys and thats challenging Prescott to beat them. The Cowboys will need good play from Dak to have a chance, but being able to establish the threat of a running game will go a long way in helping alleviate the pressure facing their young quarterback. The Cowboys must find the lost running game that made them so good in 2016, because this season hasnt been so easy for Elliott. In the 33 games of his young career, Zeke has had seven games where hes been held under 80 yards rushing. Five of those seven games have been this season. 2. You cant hit what you cant catchOn Monday night, all eyes from the home crowd were focused on no. 19 as their new offensive toy, Amari Cooper, was making his debut on his new team. On Sunday night, the same will hold true , only the home crowd is now the Eagles and the player wearing 19 is Golden Tate. The Eagles werent able to offer enough to land Cooper, but Tate is a nice consolation prize. Hes been one of the best after-the-catch receivers in this league, which is something instilled in him early by his mom.Tates ability to turn a small gain into a big gain has always been a problem for the Cowboys regardless of what team hes played for. His best game so far this season came in Week 4 against the Cowboys where he caught eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Hes going to be a problem. But the problem doesnt stop with Tate. The Eagles have an assortment of short-pass-catching players who will look to steal extra yards to help keep the offense moving. Between bubble screens, bootlegs, or just quick dump offs to running backs, the Eagles will find ways to get chunks of yardage. The Cowboys linebackers will have to do a better job tackling than they did against Dion Lewis and the Titans on Monday night.3. The money downThe Cowboys offense has been lousy on third down this season. They are bottom five in the league, only converting 33% of their third-down attempts. Here are the four teams worse than the Cowboys - Cleveland Browns (rookie QB), New York Jets (rookie QB), Buffalo Bills (rookie QB), and Arizona Cardinals (rookie QB). Yowsers. To make matters worse, they will now face a defense that is third in the league in stopping teams on third down. Well, thats not ideal.Between the Eagles stout third-down defense and the offenses ability to keep the chains moving, Philadelphia is leading the league in time of possession, holding the ball for an average of 55% of the game. And this is from an offense that has a clock-chewing ground attack of Ezekiel Elliott DeMarco Murray Wendall Smallwood. The Cowboys are 25th in time of possession and are coming off a game where they held the ball for 10 minutes less than their opponents. The Eagles are averaging 10 more offensive plays a game than the Cowboys and Dallas cant afford to give them this type of advantage in the game. The Cowboys will have to do something they couldnt do on Monday night - win the third down battle. And this comes from both ends of the ball. The offense has to convert and the defense has to make stops. Both were absent against the Titans and if that type of performance rears its ugly head again, the Cowboys are in big trouble against the Eagles.4. Protecting PrescottKeeping their young quarterback upright is always a big objective for this team, but its becoming more and more challenging as of late. Prescott was sacked five teams in the second half against the Titans as Dallas was trying to play catch up. Now, they will face an Eagles defensive line that consists of Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Michael Bennett Chidobe Awuzie Jersey , and Haloti Ngata. Some might try to tell you this Eagles defense has lost a step, but when they do - they regain ground rather quickly. Theyre good, theyve been good, and theyre going to stay good. How thats for consistency? While the Eagles defensive line is a big problem, its only part of the problem. The Cowboys are having their own internal struggles within the offensive line. The promotion of Marc Colombo and addition of Hudson Houck is one action the organization has taken to help strengthen the group, but they have a tough task ahead of them. And it got a little tougher when they learned that rookie Connor Williams wont be available after having a knee scope on Wednesday. This means a new piece to the offensive line puzzle as Xavier Sua-Filo and Adam Redmond will compete for the starting spot at left guard in Williams absence. Thats nothing that should alarm you. I mean, its only Fletcher Fox and when has he ever been a problem?5. Absolutely must win the turnover battleIf I close my eyes and imagine the Cowboys somehow escaping Philadelphia with a victory, the image I see most is Carson Wentz repeatedly turning the ball over. He only has two interceptions on the season, but he has trouble hanging on the ball when pressure arrives. In fact, he has a fumble in every one of his games this season. Sometimes these turnovers are inflicted by some grabby hands from the defense, but sometimes theyre not.The Cowboys defense has shown the ability to swarm towards the football. Against the Titans, they recovered three fumbles (although one was overturned) in the first quarter so the intensity to smash, crash, and race after the ball is something they are capable of. If Wentz starts getting loosey-goosey with the football, the Cowboys must take advantage. That not only means recovering those loose balls, but converting them into points, something the Cowboys struggled with on Monday night. If the Dallas defense can create some turnovers and Dak Prescott can have a clean game, the Cowboys will have a shot to come away with the victory. Those are some of the things Ill be watching on Sunday night. The Denver Broncos set an NFL record for most yards rushing given up in a two-week span with 593 yards Von Miller Jersey , which included two consecutive 200 yard rushers - also an NFL record. These are not records a team wants to set, either.Head Coach Vance Joseph sounds like he is ready to go back to using more base defense over the nickel, since that change appears to be when the defense began to be run through on the ground.I believe we can, Joseph said on Tuesday when asked if the run defense can be turned around. The first three weeks, we gave up 3.2 a carry. Weve had really two bad weeks, and its really with our nickel defense. We have to fix that and obviously play in more fronts and fix it that way.For two straight weeks, the Broncos matched up 11 personnel with the nickel without any adjustments despite those record-setting marks. We have to go back and look at everything, from how we fit things Jeff Heuerman Color Rush Jersey , the fronts we play and how we tackle, Joseph said. The first month of the season, that wasnt a problem for us, even against Kansas City. He popped one run against K.C., it was really two missed tackles. Again, you have to go back and really look at what the problems are.Wade Phillips must have known the nickel would be problematic with the players he had last year, because he mostly matched up 11 personnel with their base defense with Justin Simmons in the slot. Current Defensive Coordinator Joe Woods used similar tweaks last year to great effect as the defense finished strong against the run in 2017. The big question now is whether or not the problem is Vance Joseph meddling in the defensive play-calling the last few weeks trying to fix some issues in the pass defense, because Woods didnt seem to have a problem with his defense stopping the run until a few weeks ago. Good morning Menelik Watson Jersey , Broncos Country!Former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed - the Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 - dropped a bomb yesterday when talking about his Hall of Fame candidacy with Bleacher Report.I pray to God that Steve Atwater gets in, the 9-time Pro Bowler said. If I get in and he dont get in, Id rather give my space to him.Wow. Thats some serious street cred for Steve Atwater. Reed, who is the all-time leader in interception yards returned with 1,590 and a member of the Hall of Fames First Team All-2000s team, is considered a lock as a first-ballot analyst Elliott Harrison wrote last year that Reed forced quarterbacks and offensive coordinators to change their whole approach because he could make any play a safety can make, while also becoming instant offense whenever he got the ball in his hand. The year Reed won DPOY, he returned nine interceptions for 358 yards , the second-most in a single season in NFL history. So as a free safety, Reed has the stats HOF voters like to see - interceptions, scores off INTs and fumbles, and lots of yards. Sooooo many yards. But even he recognizes that the position isnt necessarily about those stats. Its about being able to give the ball back to your offense. Atwaters textbook tackles were often as much a change of possession factor as a turnover. As our own Kolorado Kaos pointed out: His ability to cover the top WRs was on par with the best safeties in the league. His batted ball [in SB32] is textbook, legal and exceptional. Few of the tackling machines in NFL history can make that play.Ed Reed knows that, and thats why he knows Atwater deserves the Hall of Fame as much as he does.A note about our 27-in-27 series:We know that no one here needs even one reason - let alone 27 - to be reminded why Steve Atwater deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. But this series isnt about convincing you. Its about convincing the voters who, sadly, are as much influenced by how familiar they are with the candidate as by the players performance over his career. So this series - this commitment - was to continuously keep Steve Atwaters name in the media every day for the month leading up to the vote. His chances may be slim this year (because the HOF voters are dumb) Max Garcia Color Rush Jersey , but this series can be pointed to over and over every year until the committee does the Broncos right and puts all its deserving players in - beginning with Atwater and continuing with Randy Gradishar and so many more.Thank you for reading stories you didnt need to read because you already knew all the good things about Atwater. We take a look at the predictions from a couple publications about Bears free agents Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan."Theres only one big story-line centering on the Chicago Bears as the NFL ramps up for Free Agency on March 13. Will they re-sign safety Adriam Amos and nickleback Bryce Callahan? Speculation has gone from an either/or scenario Leonard Floyd Color Rush Jersey , to a bring both back scenario, to a let both walk for a comp pick scenario, and at this point weve covered the situation from all angles at WCG. So now that our takes are on record, lets check out a couple predictions from two NFL experts who both have the Bears saying goodbye to Amos. .First up is The Athletics Sheil Kapadia who predicted where their Top 50 free agents would end up, and he has Amos joining a familiar face with the Denver Broncos. Amos to Denver has been a hot rumor for a while now Eric Kush Jersey , but some in Denver believe that Amos is just using the Broncos as leverage to boost his price tag. But with the safety market so saturated that may not materialize.Next up is Pro Football Focus who gave their take in an ESPN Insider article titled, The one free agent every NFL team must sign in 2019. Mathieu and Amos are much different players, so this seems like an odd swap. But considering how highly PFF thinks of Amos coverage skills I understand this prediction. While fishing around those two articles I did come across their guesses on Bryce Callahan too, and Kapadia thinks he returns to the Bears, but their reasoning is weird. The Athletic is the only publication Ive seen that gives the nod to Amos in an either/or scenario and I dont get it. While I do think hes a good football player , there seems to be more options out there to replace Amos production. Perhaps hes factoring in Callahans injury history. PFF has the Washington Redskins signing Callahan. All those reasons listed above is why I think the Bears are making him a priority. A team like Washington could swoop in and severely overpay, in which case I could see the Bears moving on. And speaking of moving on, PFF did give a prediction for whom the Bears could sign. Nelson is a good player, but hes likely to get a bigger pay day than Callahan. The Bears have to keep in mid the contract theyll be handing Eddie Jackson once hes eligible for an extension and signing Nelson to huge money may not be in their long term plans. I still think the Bears would like them both back, and once they both test the market a little bit Eddie Goldman Color Rush Jersey , the Bears will determine how to spend their cap space. My guess is Callahan stays with Amos leaving. Over the last couple of years, social justice issues have been a talking point for many in the NFL and the Bears have announced a new initiative to address them in Chicago. The Bears announced on Tuesday that the teams players have pledged a $250,000 donation toward social justice initiatives and that the team will match that donation. The Bears players are the first in the NFL to maximize the matching program put in place by the league and the team said it will match any funds the players donate above that figure. This whole thing got started a little over two years ago when obviously Colin Kaepernick and some players around the NFL were taking knees, and there was a big聽discussion about what can we as players and as a team do to help address some of the issues that people are protesting, Bears linebacker Sam Acho said. And so that鈥檚 why we got together and said not only do we want to do stuff in the community Marcus Cooper Jersey , but we also want to put our money behind it.A committee made up of five players Acho, tight end Trey Burton, quarterback Chase Daniel, defensive tackle Akiem Hicks and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and four executives, including team chairman George McCaskey , will be guiding the way that the fund is dispersed. They have met with the University of Chicago Crime Lab to find out areas where they can make an impact on education, community/law enforcement relations and criminal justice reform.
