OVERLAND PARK , Kan. (AP) The Latest on developments in the domestic abuse incident involving Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill (all times local):3:40 p.m.The Kansas City Chiefs are defending their decision to give pass rusher Frank Clark a $105.5 million, five-year contract despite a history of domestic violence in the wake of a criminal investigation of wide receiver Tyreek Hill for his role in an alleged child abuse case.Clark was acquired in a trade with Seattle this week, then given the largest contract in franchise history. But he arrives with off-the-field baggage from his time at Michigan, where Clark was kicked off the team his final season because of his case.Chiefs general manager Brett Veach acknowledged when a player of this magnitude comes in with a contract like this Jersey:// Jersey , he has a responsibility. Veach also insisted that Clark has done enough work in the Seattle community to show he has put his past behind him. The Lions made Trey Flowers the centerpiece of their offseason, signing the former Patriots outside linebacker to a five-year, $90 million contract. He wont be ready for the start of training camp, as the team announced he was on the active/physically unable to perform list.Players can be activated from PUP list at any time.Flowers had what was termed a minor shoulder procedure after the Super Bowl Noah Fant Jersey , but there was no indication it would be a long-term issue. The Lions also announced a number of roster moves, including the addition of tight end Austin Traylor. He played in the AAF, and was on the Broncos practice squad and active roster in 2017. He also spent time with the Cowboys, Chargers , Patriots and Ravens in 2016.They activated four players from the active/non-football injury list: Defensive tackle John Atkins, defensive end Austin Bryant, defensive tackle P.J. Johnson, and tackle Ryan Pope. They also activated wide receiver Chris Lacy from the active-PUP list Drew Lock Jersey , and placed linebacker Steve Longa on the PUP.

Eli Manning will start for the Giants. Could his brother have interest in joining the other team in town as the General Manager? The Giants quarterback said Monday he has no insight into whether Peyton would consider the Jets job.I dont know Ben Banogu Jersey , Eli Manning told Tom Rock of . I have not talked to him about that. I have no inside scoop on that.Newsday has quoted a source who doubts Peyton Manning will pursue the opportunity with the Jets.Eli, though, doesnt appear to have a problem with the idea of his older brother sharing the stage in New York if thats what Peyton wanted to do.Obviously we play the Jets [in the regular season] this year, but in that sense, I dont know if there would be that much that overlapped, Eli said of the business between the two teams that split MetLife Stadium, not to mention the back pages of New Yorks newspapers. I dont think it would be strange. To say the Jets , Raiders and Bucs have quit would be hyperbole. To say their fans are ready to quit watching them would be more accurate. There was little to nothing worth mentioning about their performances Sunday in one-sided defeats. In the New York and Tampa Bay areas, much of the chatter will be about removing Todd Bowles and Dirk Koetter as head coaches of their respective outfits. At least Jon Gruden wont be worrying about job security with a Raiders team he has torn asunder Parris Campbell Jersey , and he has the job security to rebuild.Bowles got it right at the New Jersey Meadowlands by saying following a 41-10 embarrassment at the hands of the previously-inept-on-offense Buffalo: We stunk it up as coaches, we stunk it up as players. His team certainly represented what used to be swamp land quite well Sunday. The Jets (3-7, losers of four in a row) were blitzed from the beginning by a quarterback, Matt Barkley, who was unemployed a few days ago, and has been a journeyman for almost his entire NFL stint; this was his 12th game since 2013. They were overrun by LeSean McCoy, which is fine except when you consider he was in a horrendous slump and hadnt scored all season.Worst, they seemed apathetic and disinterested from the start, a strong indictment of the players and the coaches. They just came in and just straight Bobby Okereke Jersey , flat out, beat us, said Jets receiver Jermaine Kearse, who has had to adjust to lots of losing in New York after lots of winning while he was with the Seahawks. I wish I could give you an explanation. Its frustrating for all of us, but they just came in here and straight beat us.Maybe because the Bills were trying a whole lot harder?Nobodys quit on anybody, Kearse added. We win together, we lose together and thats everybodys mindset right now. Were all not perfect, were out here trying to figure it out and find ways to improve this situation like anybody else. So, I would think thats far from the truth. The Jets have never fired a coach during the season since the Johnson family bought the franchise in 2000. At least Bowles seems to have that going for him.Koetter is in his third season in charge in Tampa Khari Willis Jersey , and hes supposedly an offensive mastermind. Until being manhandled by Washington, the Bucs were tearing it up when they had the ball. Maybe somebody tore up all the play sheets that worked previously because they scored a mere three points against a team struggling with injuries.Offensive coordinator Todd Monken had been calling plays, but Koetter took over against the Redskins. He wouldnt explain why, but clearly it was a bogus decision. We werent good enough as a team, and that starts with me, Koetter said. To move the ball like that and come up with three points, youre just not going to win that way.Tampa (3-6) has the second-longest playoff drought, 10 seasons, and Koetters chances of breaking that string are diminishing rapidly. No such worries for Gruden Josh Allen Jersey , whose return to Oakland has been a fiasco so far. Give him credit for all the high draft picks the Raiders will have in April, and maybe for the high prospects they will carry into Las Vegas when they move in 2020.For now, though, well pardon us on this one theyve fallen into a Black Hole. This will be a year that a lot of us will never forget, Gruden said of his 1-8 team that has been outscored 75-9 in the past nine quarters in what has quickly become a lost season. Its painful. Its really hard. Its painful. Its going to be hard to sleep again, hard to get up in the morning. When Gruden gets up, hell perhaps look at others to get rid of as he retools the roster already missing Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin and Amari Cooper. Hes got that wildly lucrative 10-year contract, virtual total control of personnel and no qualms about doing pretty much anything. What must hurt fans of these three teams that got hammered Sunday is that the effort from other losing clubs Arizona Jawaan Taylor Jersey , which tested powerful Kansas City; Cleveland, which stunned Atlanta; and, of course, Buffalo was so strong, so admirable. Perhaps the worst sign for a struggling team is when it looks lost, lethargic and lacking skill on the field. In New Jersey and the Tampa and Oakland bay areas, thats exactly what the fans saw in Week 10.

Francisco Lindor and the Cleveland Indians reached double digits Will Harris Jersey , and then some.

Lindor homered and hit two of the Indians 11 doubles Sunday as they ended the Oakland Athletics six-game winning streak with a 15-3 romp.

It was really good, Lindor said. Hopefully itll keep us in the right direction. Guys felt very comfortable today in the box. Hopefully we can carry that approach to tomorrows game.

Edwin Encarnacion also homered and Jose Ramirez, Yonder Alonso and Lonnie Chisenhall each added two doubles. The Indians nearly matched the team record of 12 doubles set against Minnesota in 1996.

We kept the line moving, manager Terry Francona said. We hit the ball the other way, we hit the ball through the hole , we went first to third. Thats a good recipe for us. Theyre grinding and grinding so its nice to have something to show for it.

Alonso had four hits and three RBIs. Cleveland broke open the game with an eight-run eighth inning its first 10 batters reached without an out.

Mike Clevinger (7-3) allowed three runs over six uneven innings as the AL Central leaders avoided a sweep.

Cleveland led 5-3 before its big eighth, getting five singles, two doubles, two walks and a hit batter before the As recorded an out. When Yan Gomes hit a comebacker to pitcher Josh Lucas for the first out, the Coliseum crowd of 16 Rock Ya-Sin Jersey ,164 erupted in mock cheers.

Khris Davis had two hits for the As. Oakland had won 12 of 14 going into the day, but left the bases loaded in the first and struggled to get much going after that.

Its unfortunate that this game got completely out of hand for us because the guys felt great about not only playing well but coming back, As manager Bob Melvin said. We had some good at-bats and then it just got a little out of hand.

The Indians were outscored 10-3 in the first two games of the series and were on the verge of being swept for the second time this season before breaking out against As starter Frankie Montas (4-2) and four relievers.

Lindor struck out in his first at-bat, doubled in his next two and hit his 21st home run in the seventh. The Indians leadoff hitter later drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth.

Encarnacion also homered in the seventh, his 20th this season.

Clevelands 13 extra-base hits are the most in the majors in a game this season. . The Indians are 7-1 when facing a sweep in the final game of a series. . Mark Canha has a 10-game hitting streak for Oakland.

Chisenhall made a diving catch at the right-field foul line on Chad Pinders sinking fly ball to end a bases-loaded threat in the first inning. Center fielder Rajai Davis made an equally impressive diving catch on Jed Lowries liner in the third , then threw back to the infield and the Indians completed an 8-4-3 double play.

Those were huge, Davis said. Those are rally-killers.

Indians: RHP Carlos Carrasco (right elbow contusion) threw 58 pitches over four innings of a rehab start with Double-A Akron.

Athletics: 3B Matt Chapman (right thumb contusion) took batting practice before the game and will begin a rehab stint with Single-A Stockton on Monday.

Indians: RHP Corey Kluber (11-4, 2.54 ERA) pitches against the Royals in Kansas City on Monday, coming off the shortest start of his career.

Athletics: RHP Chris Bassitt (1-3, 2.82) faces the San Diego Padres on Monday in his second start since getting called up from the minors for the fifth time this season.

Illinois officially has joined the parade of states that have embraced legalized sports wagering since the Supreme Court opened the floodgates last May. California officially has entered the pipeline. But it wont be as easy as it has been in other states. In California Parris Campbell Jersey , a public vote will be needed to change the states Constitution to allow sports wagering. Via , California legislators have proposed a ballot measure that would set the stage for legalized gambling on sports, with an election that could happen as soon as November 2020.Tribal groups with casinos in California could push back aggressively. In Florida, Native American gaming interests worked with Disney to finagle an amendment to the Constitution (opposed by the Dolphins) to require a public vote for any gambling expansion along with a 60-percent supermajority. As noted by David Purdum of, the bill needs 66-percent of the legislators to approve the California version of the law before it could make it to a public ballot. Which will make it harder to get there.Nevada would surely be happy to see the effort fail. Even though New Jersey became in May the first state to ever handle more wagers than Nevada in one month , Nevadas wagering business has spiked since the topic of legalized sports gambling entered mainstream consciousness. It will surely stay that way, if folks in nearby California have no local options when it comes to placing bets.

TEMPE , Ariz. (AP) Five games into the season, the Arizona Cardinals offense is running like some old car with a sputtering engine. The Cardinals (1-4) rank 31st out of 32 teams in total offense (210 yards a game), 31st in passing offense (146 yards per game) and dead last in rushing offense (64.6 yards per game). This with a team that features one of the best running backs in the NFL in David Johnson.Well, weve definitely got to improve in that area, Cardinals coach Steve Wilks said after Wednesdays practice. Weve got to make sure that we put the ball in the end zone, No. 1, get more points, and that starts with being more effective upfront, from a standpoint of getting movement, being able to run the ball, being able to protect. Also, taking advantage of our opportunities. When the balls thrown, weve got to make sure we make the catch.Arizona made much of its rebuilt offensive line this season, with D.J. Humphries at left tackle, Mike Iupati at left guard, rookie Mason Cole at center and Justin Pugh at right guard. Andre Smith was brought in to play right tackle, but his time has been limited by injuries, leaving the job to John Wetzel. We definitely can play better, without a doubt Ben Powers Jersey , Wilks said of the O-line. I think if you asked those guys that question, theyd tell you the same thing too inconsistent, not running the ball well. Weve got to do a much better job in that area. Two seasons ago, Johnson rushed for 1,239 yards and caught 80 passes for 879 yards. He led the NFL in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns. He went down with a season-ending wrist injury in last years opener and hasnt found much room to run this year.Through four games, Johnson has 242 yards rushing on 74 carries, 3.3 yards per attempt. Hes caught 15 passes for 120 yards.Just keep grinding, Johnson said when asked how he was holding up through the difficulties, just keep grinding and doing what they pay me to do, doing what the coaches, my teammates expect me to do, and well get through it.But what needs to be done to improve things in a hurry? The Cardinals play at Minnesota on Sunday.Fixing my mistakes, said Johnson, known to be his own worst critic, and continue to give them confidence in the run game.Wilks knows he needs more out of Johnson, whom he called one of the top running backs in the league.I think were doing some great things in practice, Wilks said. You can see the progress there. Youve just got to understand that it goes at a totally different tempo with those guys on the other side of the ball. So, it really comes back to really just execution and understanding that youve got to take advantage of each opportunity because this could be the difference in the game.Wilks doesnt think teams are keying on Johnson.I wouldnt say that, he said. Weve got to do a better job , as I mentioned before, of just trying to spread him around a little bit, get him in different areas, get him out of the backfield some, loosen up the defense a little bit and really take what theyre giving us.Rookie Josh Rosen is preparing to make his third start. He knows things arent clicking for the offense yet, at least not consistently.I think we all have areas we need to improve on, he said. We had maybe one sack last game, and it was my fault. I held the ball a little too long in the two-minute, so I think everyones playing pretty well. We have just one-off mental mistakes everywhere. Like me, linemen, receivers, running backs, some people make one mistake, but when you have eight or nine people making one mistake on separate plays, you almost just want to be like, All right guys, lets all screw up this first play together and then play great from then on.Its just about locking in and staying focused. Weve all got things to get better on.NOTES: Johnson took a ride in a jet fighter Tuesday and said it was a lot of fun although he almost passed out. DE Chandler Jones was chosen NFC defensive player of the week after getting six tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss Trace McSorley Jersey , two quarterback hits, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and pass defensed in Arizonas 28-18 win at San Francisco. Iupati (shoulder) and Humphries (knee) were among those who sat out Wednesdays practice. Wilks said he expects both to play on Sunday. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints needed less than 10 minutes to obliterate what looked like a milestone victory for the seemingly cursed Cleveland Browns.Wil Lutz kicked a 44-yard field goal with 21 seconds left, Cleveland kicker Zane Gonzalez pushed the second of his two missed field goals wide right in the final seconds, and the Saints held on for a 21-18 victory that extended the Browns winless streak to 19 games. These are games that we find we find our identity a little bit, Brees said, alluding to New Orleans inability to score more than three points until the first of Michael Thomas two touchdown catches with 8:41 to go. These are games that, hey, you didnt have your best stuff, but you found a way. With the help of another Cleveland collapse.Gonzalez also missed two extra points, one week after his potential winning field goal was blocked in a season-opening tie with Pittsburgh. His final miss came from 52 yards. It snowballed, Gonzalez said, acknowledging the psychological effect of earlier misses that he hooked left before pushing his final kick the other way. I was overcompensating. I get paid to make those kicks and I have to make them.Gonzalezs tough day represented only a portion of Clevelands implosion. Defensive back Derrick Kindreds illegal contact penalty on what would have been a third-down sack extended New Orleans first touchdown drive, which ended with Thomas 2-yard catch and cut Clevelands lead to 12-10.With just less than five minutes left, Saints safety Marcus Williams intercepted Tyrod Taylor in Cleveland territory on a pass Taylor threw back over the middle as he was rolling to his right. You never want to throw late down the middle, Taylor said. Thats something I need to be better at. That play was not good for us. You cant put your team in that situation. The turnover led to New Orleans second TD on a 5-yard fade to Thomas, who said he was determined to make up for his fumble earlier in the game. Thomas outjumped two defenders to make the catch.Enough was enough, Thomas said. I needed to respond and help my teammates, and thats what I did. And I still owe them.Brees finished 28 for 35 for 243 yards and two TDs for New Orleans (1-1). Thomas caught 12 passes for 89 yards.Taylor was 22 of 30 for 246 yards Ed Oliver Jersey , one TD and one interception. Jarvis Landry had five catches for 69 yards, and Carlos Hyde scored on a 1-yard TD run.It wasnt enough for the Browns (0-1-1), who were very close to starting 2-0.Its tough, but we got a lot of football left to play, Landry said.GOOD KAMARAAlvin Kamara, the 2017 offensive rookie of the year, continued to be a bright spot in a largely frustrating day for New Orleans offense. His seemingly slippery running style continued to produce yards after contact and he wound up with 99 yards from scrimmage, including 53 on six catches. His run for a late 2-point conversion gave the Saints an 18-12 lead and made a difference after Taylor found rookie receiver Antonio Callaway for a 47-yard, all-or-nothing TD heave on fourth-and-5 with 1:16 to go.Gonzalez missed a point-after kick for the second time, and Brees 42-yard completion to Ted Ginn Jr. set up Lutz go-ahead kick.TURNOVERSThe Browns, who forced six turnovers against Pittsburgh in Week 1, recovered two more fumbles when Thomas and Ginn were both stripped after receptions.Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi sacked Brees twice and would have had a third if not for Kindreds penalty.Overall, it was a strong showing for the unit coached by coordinator Gregg Williams, who held the same job in New Orleans when the Saints won their only Super Bowl.INJURIESBrowns: Safety Damarious Randall received treatment on the field after being in on a tackle in the second quarter.Saints: Tommylee Lewis received treatment for what the club described as a knee injury after a big hit during a punt return in the second quarter. He was listed as questionable to return to the game. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins left in the fourth quarter after taking a hit to the head. He said after the game his face mask was pushed into his nose but that he did not have a concussion.UP NEXTBrowns: Host the New York Jets on Thursday night.Saints: Visit Atlanta on Sunday.

KANSAS CITY , Mo. (AP) Kansas City Chiefs offense when he leads the Baltimore Ravens into Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. He wont make a tackle, though, or cause a fumble or intercept a pass.Thats because stopping Patrick Mahomes and Co. begins with keeping them on the sideline. And to do that, the Ravens quarterback needs to make sure he keeps his own offense on the field.Whatever it takes, were going to help them out, Jackson said of the Ravens top-ranked defense, keep the clock running, keep the ball in our possession. The Ravens have been good at that all season.Even before Jackson took over for Joe Flacco, who remained limited in practice this week with a hip injury, the Ravens employed a ball-control style offense. Their average time of possession is nearly 32 minutes a game, third-best in the NFL, and that in turn has helped Baltimore lead the NFL in scoring defense. It has been even more pronounced after Jackson went under center, though. He has 265 yards rushing to set a quarterback record for a players first three starts in the Super Bowl era, and the Ravens have run for at least 200 yards as a team in each game during the corresponding three-game win streak they are the first team since the 2010 Jaguars to accomplish that feat.In last weeks victory over the Falcons, who have a score-a-minute offense in their own right, the Ravens held the ball for an astounding 39 minutes, 39 seconds. They did so by piling up 25 first downs, half of those coming on the ground, and running 77 plays to just 45 for the Falcons. When youre on the field for 20 percent less than what you normally have been, youre obviously going to play better defense and play better as a team, Ravens safety Eric Weddle said.Play great defense , control the clock, play great on special teams, you have a shot at winning. Thats been known here over the years of the way the Ravens play, and were going to continue to do that. The Chiefs are quite nearly the diametric opposite.Only four times in their first 12 games have they possessed the ball more than their opponents, and that was with reigning NFL rushing champ Kareem Hunt in the backfield for the first 11 of them.Hunt was released last week after a series of off-the-field issues became public. In fact, both of the Chiefs losses this season at the Patriots and Rams have come when theyve lost the time of possession battle. It was particularly lopsided in New England, when the Chiefs had the ball for less than 24 minutes in what became a 43-40 shootout loss to Tom Brady and Co.One of the big reasons for the disparity is that Kansas City simply scores fast, averaging an NFL-leading 37 points per game. The Chiefs quick-strike offense centers around Mahomes distributing to one of the deepest stables of skill-position talent in the league, headlined by speedsters Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins and their versatile, big-play tight end Travis Kelce.Mahomes has a league-leading 43 throws of at least 25 yards this season. Quite a few of those have been part of his NFL-best and franchise-record 41 touchdown tosses.Coach Andy Reid acknowledged that teams have tried to play ball-control offense against Kansas City, and for the most part it hasnt worked that well. The Chiefs have been able to build big enough leads in most of their games that opponents have to abandon the run altogether.I dont think it changes what you do, Reid insisted. You have to be efficient with what you do when you have the opportunity with the ball. That is always our challenge, though. You have to take care of business when you have the opportunities.Notes: RB Charcandrick West has switched numbers after signing earlier this week. He wore No. 35 last year and was No. 30 at practice Thursday. P Dustin Colquitt has been nominated by Kansas City for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. TE Demetrius Harris (ill) missed Thursdays practice. Alex Smith doesnt believe in assigned seats. As he tried to get to know his new Washington Redskins teammates, Smith sat in a different seat for each meeting.Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula knew that from his time with Smith in San Francisco, and running back Chris Thompson beamed, Thats a trait from your quarterback that you like to see.Its a concerted effort by Smith to fit in with the guys, something he did quickly after taking over as the Redskins franchise quarterback.Be it his personality, his depth of NFL experience or the long-term contract that previous starter Kirk Cousins never had in Washington, Smith has already assumed the place of unquestioned leader and made players sense an entirely different vibe around the team.(Its about) putting yourself out there, being real and nothing fake, nothing phony but getting to know the guys , letting your guard down, Smith said. Im more conscious of it as Ive gotten older about that, about the responsibility as a teammate, being a good teammate. No one around the Redskins is calling Cousins a bad teammate, and team brass is reluctant to compare him and Smith on or off the field. But ever since Smith took the field in practice in burgundy and gold, he has been the subject of glowing praise about his ability to lead.Hes always been a leader, left tackle Trent Williams said. You could tell hes comfortable in that role. Hes what we needed.A series of one-year contracts made Cousins unwilling or unable to fully fill that void. After signing a guaranteed $84 million, three-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, Cousins felt he finally had a license to lead that was never there with the Redskins, who took him in the same draft as Robert Griffin III, made him compete for the starting job and never agreed to a long-term contract.Washington not only acquired Smith from Kansas City but signed him to a $94 million, four-year extension with $71 million guaranteed and put the pressure on him to get back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season. Thats as much as license to lead as anything, but the 34-year-old brushed off the trappings of that kind of security. All youre guaranteed is a year at a time here and even game by game, Smith said. I appreciate so much the opportunity I have today and right in front of me and Im not really thinking past that. Contract, all this and that, Im not feeling any kind of comfort in that. No. Ive got a huge sense of urgency to go out there and to go right now, to go today. Im not waiting on anything. So it doesnt change my approach at all.Its that approach that quickly won Smith the respect of teammates, who spent the opening days of training camp talking about things feeling different this year. This was a team with Jay Gruden entering his fifth season as head coach with almost the same core of players except at the most important position. We got a lot of leaders on this team, especially with your quarterback, safety D.J. Swearinger said. When you get a guy like Alex Smith in here, a lot changes. Hes changed the leadership of how the offense approaches (the game). When they break the huddle Ben Banogu Jersey , its a different bounce. Its a different way he comes on the line and commands the offense.Thats what senior vice president of player personnel and retired QB Doug Williams thought the Redskins were getting in Smith, who is coming off a season in which he set career highs with 4,042 yards passing and 26 touchdowns. Cousins threw for 4,000 yards the past three seasons, but Washington wanted a long-term answer and found it in Smith. What weve seen since hes been here is everything that we thought, that Jim (Tomsula) was talking about, from a leadership standpoint, Williams said. When he walked in the building, you could feel Alex Smith taking control of the locker room and being part of what we were looking for from a stability standpoint. The practice field has been the setting for Redskins players getting an up-close look at Smith. Cornerback Josh Norman bemoaned not being able to get enough work in because Smith was too accurate and wouldnt make mistakes, and Swearinger called him the kind of player defenders hate to face.Gruden, a former QB himself and an offensive guru, sees Smith as someone who can run his playbook and is also tailoring some things to him to maximize his mobility and decision-making prowess.Really what CANT he do? Gruden said. Were just trying to come up with a plan of attack that utilizes his skillset and make him as comfortable as possible.Smith looks and feels comfortable off the field, too. In addition to players admiring how the playbook has grown because of his addition, Thompson and said Smith seemed to just fit in with us right away.Gruden said Smith doesnt walk in here like hes king. Hes walking in here like hes one of the guys. As one of the fittest players on the team, Smith sets a work ethic example, and his personality is such that Gruden thinks he could play a pickup basketball game with anyone and fit in.Perhaps thats why his transition to Washington has been so seamless that Williams said it feels as if Smith has been around a long time. The Redskins hope he actually is.He has the charisma, he has the character, he has everything that you want in a quarterback, Williams said. And thats what theyre supposed to be: a face of the franchise, and I can tell you this: Alex Smith fits that mold as the face of a franchise.
